Health benefits of Ambarella

Ambarella, scientifically termed as Spondias dulcis, is a tropical fruit-bearing tree. It grows extensively in warmer parts of Asia and Africa, in many countries including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Jamaica and Barbados. Amberella is eaten as a delicious fruit as well as a curry in our local cuisine. Amberla has a taste and quality that are unique to it. In addition to being eaten as a curry, Sri Lankans also make jams, chutneys, drinks and pickles from Ambarella fruit.
Ambarella is rich in Calcium, phosphorus, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C and antioxidants namely flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, saponins and cardiac glycosides.
Ripped Ambarella is golden color, for that in Ayurveda, Ambarella is known as “Amrutha” which means golden color fruit. Not only the Ambarella fruit is being used as medicine in Ayurveda but also its bark, leaves and gums are used to make medicine.
Ambarella is a fruit that is very good for a healthy heart. It is beneficial for patients suffering from heart related diseases to take Ambarella as a fruit as well as to eat it as a curry.
Ayurveda states that amberella also has analgesic properties. According to Ayurveda, the bark of Ambarella is rubbed with salt water and can be applied to swollen, bruised and painful areas to relieve the pain.
Amberella also comes to the aid of those suffering from digestive problems since Ambarella is packed with beneficial antioxidants such as flavonoids, terpenoids and tannins. These promote easy digestion, preventing bloating, indigestion and flatulence. Ambarella contributes to improve apatite as well.
