Beet detox soup

Detoxification (Detox) refers to removing toxins from the body.  There are certain ways to detox our bodies. Fasting for 1-3 days, drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies, water, and tea, eliminating foods high in heavy metals, contaminants, and allergens, taking supplements or herbs with the guidance and consultation of a medical practitioner are some of them. Detox diets are not good for people with certain medical conditions, therefore if you have serious conditions you should always ask your doctor before taking a detox diet.  Instead you can have a detox diet that focuses on clean eating. It is suitable for anyone having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even heart disease. I will upload a separate article about detoxification later, here I am going to give you a recipe for making a detoxification soup which is good for a person who is trying to eat clean. This soup is made with Beets, if you want to know the health benefits of Beets, there is an article under “Food & Nutrition” title. 

Here are the ingredients of the Beet detox soup. This can be prepared within 45 minutes and can be served to two people. 

Ingredients: 

  • 3 medium beet roots 

  • 2 carrots, finely diced

  • 1 onion, finely diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed 

  • 1 small leek, finely diced 

  • 1 tsp of coconut oil 

  • 2 cups of vegetable broth, warm 

  • ¼ tsp of sea salt 

  • 1 tbsp chia/ sunflower/ pumpkin seeds (If you can find) 

  • 1 tsp of coconut milk 

Method : 

Place the unpeeled beet roots in a pot, cover with water, bring to boil then simmer for 30 minutes. Drain the water and set aside to cool. Heat the coconut oil in a pan, add the onions, garlic,leeks and carrot and cook for about 5 minutes over low heat. Remove from the heat.  Peel the beet roots, cut into cubes, and add into the blender, together with the cooked vegetables and warm vegetable broth.  Process to obtain a smooth cream. Season with salt, garnish with coconut milk and seeds before serving.
