Coconut stir fried Mukunuwenna/ Mukunuwenna melluma.

I think you have heard of Mukunuwenna plant and its benefits to our health. This is the recipe to make Coconut stir fried Mukunuwenna. You can make Gotu Kola, Moringa leaves, Welpenela leaves,  Passion fruit leaves, Pumpkin leaves in this way as well. Mellum or Coconut stir fried Green leaves are eaten with rice and curry in Sri Lanka. 

Ingredients : 

  • One bundle of Mukunuwenna 

  • 30 g of Red onions

  • 2 Green Chillies

  • 100g of Scraped Coconuts

  • Salt (as your taste)

  •  Lime (optional)

  • One tablespoon of coconut oil 

Method : 

Remove the mature parts and the roots from the Mukunuwenna bundle. (Mukunuwenna is sold as bundles in the market). Wash the selected parts (leaves and soft stem)well. Then chop them finely. Add finely chopped Red onions and Green chilies, scraped Coconut and salt.  After that mix them well. Put oil into a pan and then add the mixture into it and let it heat until it becomes wither a little. Finally add lime and mix well. If you like you can wither the mixture without adding oil. If you don’t add oil you can add lime and mix before serving.
